Do you know what hepatitis is?
Hepatitis is a disease that affects liver. It can be type A, B and C.
Type A: transmitted through water, contaminated food or for one people to another. It’s a contagious disease caused by virus A and also known as infectious hepatitis. It’s fecal-oral transmission. Generally, it doesn’t have symptoms.
How to avoid: basic sanitation, potable water, food well cooked and wash hands before eating.
Type B: transmitted through blood. It’s also a contagious disease, caused by virus B. It’s sexually transmitted.
- Sexually transmitted if there is no use of condom;
- From mother to son during gestation, labor or breast-feeding;
- Sharing syringes, tooth brush, cuticle nipper, etc.;
- Contaminated blood transfusion
Type C: transmitted through blood. Examples:
- Blood transfusion;
- Sharing material for use of drugs or blades, cuticle nipper or anything that drill or cut;
- From mother to son during gestation, labor or breast-feeding
- Sexually transmitted if there is no use of condom;
When sexually transmitted, it’s more common on gay couples (men and men).
How to avoid: use condom, check if material is disposed when in a blood transfusion, in a bikini wax session or in a tattoo session.
Most common signals that you got hepatitis:
- Yellowing of eyes and skin;
- Dark urine and pale stools;
- Loss of appetite;
- Nausea;
- Fatigue and malaise;
- Joint pain and muscles pain;
- Headache;
- Cough and running nose
Prevent yourself and find a doctor if you have any of these signals.
